BNB was launched in July 2017 by Binance — the cryptocurrency exchange founded by Changpeng Zhao and He Yi. The initial coin offering raised $15 million and distributed 200 million tokens. Originally an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, BNB migrated to Binance Chain in February 2019. In 2020, Binance Smart Chain (BSC) launched with EVM compatibility. In 2022, both chains were unified under the BNB Chain brand.
